page Leyton Orient in Olympic Bid 7th November 2006 Negotiations are under way that could potentially see League One football club, Leyton Orient, move into Olympic stadium after the 2012 games. The capacity would be reduce down to 25,000 from 80,000 and would involve sharing the arena with athletics meetings and possibly a rugby union team. The 25,000 capacity would be too small for leading London clubs who may want a new stadium such as Tottenham or West Ham but the bid leader, Lord Coe has insisted that his pledge to retain the athletics track will be upheld. Cash Boost For Medal Hopes 22nd March 2006 Britain's Chancellor, Gordon Brown, is expected to announce in today's budget a cash boost of £30m a year to help with the developments of athletes in the build up to the 2012 games. Brown has also urged companies to follow his lead and provide sponsorship for the athletes. The Times
Britain's Ultimate Goal 13th March 2006 It has been revealed that Britain's ultimate goal for the 2012 Olympics is to finish 4th in the medals table. The reported cost of this will be £110m per year until 2012. The document, "A Sporting Chance for 2012", was meant to remain confidential by it was email to Hugh Robertson, the Shadow Sports Minister. The document detailed the investment model which analysed medal targets, size of the team and quality of the participating athletes. Current funding levels run at £61m a year so in order to keep targets on track, UK Sport would require a further £49m per year. In order to finish 4th, Britain would need to win 60 medals, including 17 golds. The Times
